چکیده
The current study deals with microfacies and the depositional environment of Lower Cretaceous Sarmord Formation at selected sections in Sulaimani Erbil Governorates, northern Iraq. alternates rhythmically between yellowish grey marly limestones black marls. These lithologies are observed all studied Petrographic investigation this based on 240 thin demonstrated that carbonate constituents mainly composed skeletal non-skeletal grains. grains include a variety foraminiferas (planktonic benthonic), bioclasts, calcispheres, ostracods, radiolaria, echinoderms, sponge spicules, ammonoids belemnites. consist rare intraclasts. Based field observations, two major lithofacies recognized sections, namely limestone marl lithofacies. Depending detailed analysis, main microfacies, which turn divided into four sub-microfacies, were identified. facies subdivided upon their environmental interpretation types associations: deep shelf basinal. From results petrographic, facies, textural analyses, it is concluded was deposited rimmed platform. With gradual shallowing basin from basinal sediments lower part overlying by uppermost formation sections.

Depositional History and Sequence Stratigraphy of the Tirgan Formation (Barremian – Aptian) in the Zavin section, NE Iran
The Tirgan Formation (Barremian – Aptian) is exposed in the Kopet Dagh in northeast Iran. One stratigraphic section in Zavin was measured with a thickness of 110 meters. This Formation in section consists of three parts (including lower carbonate, limy shale – marl and upper carbonate rocks). Based on the study of 94 thin sections, 10 carbonate and 2 siliciclastic lithofacies have been identifi...

Middle to Upper Triassic (Upper Ladinian to Lower Carnian) deep-sea sedimentary rocks crop out across a large area west of Nakhlak village, Central Iran and have been named Ashin Formation. The up to 304m thick, turbiditic, siliciclastic Ashin Formation consists of alternating turbiditic, thin- and medium-bedded calcareous sandstones, purple, fine-grained volcaniclastic sandstones, and mostly g...
متن کاملcomparison of sequence stratigraphy and depositional environment of asmari formation in the fars, khuzestan and lurestan areas of zagros basin
the asmari formation is a thick carbonate sequence in zagros foreland basin. it was deposited during oligocene – early miocene ages. in order to interpret the depositional environment and sequence stratigraphy, firuzabad section were compared with 4 sections of asmari formation in the zagros basin. four different sub environments were identified in the asmari formation based on microfacies anal...
